Author Irvine Welsh coming to Festival
Glasgow Film Festival is proud to announce that author Irvine Welsh will attend the screening of Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy at GFT on Saturday 18 February (18.40). Welsh will be accompanied by writer/producer/director Rob Heydon, executive producers Jon Cuqest and Ashley Pover, and lead actors Adam Sinclair and Olivia Andrup for a Q&A after the screening.
Best known for his cult novel Trainspotting, Welsh’s work is characterised by the raw Scottish dialect and brutal depiction of the realities of Edinburgh life seen within. Welsh’s often-flawed, gritty characters are commonly involved in drug abuse, corruption, violence and revenge. Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy is adapted from the critically acclaimed third tale The Undefeated from his book Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance.
Welsh’s voice shines through Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy, a tale of Lloyd (Adam Sinclair), a charismatic, drug-dealing, Edinburgh party animal having the time of his life at the heart of a vibrant rave scene. His mounting debt to the dodgy Solo is something that can wait for another day. Concern for his ailing father is the only cloud in his life. Then he meets the beguiling Heather (Kristin Kruek), a woman desperate to escape the shackles of her dull, respectable life. Can their giddy, chemical romance develop into the real deal? All the need is love in this stylish, energetic blast of pure Welsh.
