Glasgow Film Festival’s Margaret Tait panel met last week to discuss the nominations for the Margaret Tait Award. Twenty-four nominations for the film commission prize were received from the UK and overseas. The Margaret Tait Award, supported by Creative Scotland and LUX, will recognise artists who are experimental, innovative and who work within film and moving image. The recipient of the award will be given a £10,000 prize and the opportunity to present their new commission at Glasgow Film Festival in 2013. The panel, which is made up of a diverse range of experts and curators in the field of visual arts and cinema, spent a day discussing and watching each nominee’s work before deciding on a shortlist of six artists. The shortlisted nominees have now been asked to provide a proposal of the commission they would like to make which the panel will then review in early May.

Twenty-one artists also applied for the Margaret Tait Residency which will take place in Orkney this summer. This is a new residency supported by the Creative Scotland Creative Futures Programme. The aim is to support and develop the skills of an emerging Scottish or Scotland-based artist working within film and moving image. The winning recipient is still under discussion.

Both Award and Residency winners will be announced on the week beginning 7 May 2012.
