FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The answer to most of your questions can be found in our how to submit instructions. Please read these carefully before submitting your film.
Q: Why do I have to pay to submit my film?
A: GFF13 had over 1,200 submissions, the entry fee covers the cost of administration and time involved for our staff to watch and judge your films.
Q: I am having problems with the GFF14 manual submissions process, who should I contact?
A: Please contact our submissions team at michael.benjamin@glasgowfilm.org if it is related to an issue regarding payment and submission process of WAB. For any other questions related to technical issues or accepted formats, please contact programme@glasgowfilm.org.
Q: I have posted my submission DVD but have not yet received confirmation that it has arrived and been accepted as a submission – what should I do?
A: If you submitted your film via Withoutabox, please check your online account to find out if your parcel has been received by the Festival.
If you submit your film directly to the Festival using the manual form and would like us to confirm by email that payment has been processed and your submission has met the requirements, please remember to tick the relevant box on the submissions form and include a clearly written/typed email address.
Q: I am having problems submitting via Withoutabox.com – who should I contact?
A: Please contact Withoutabox at support@withoutabox.com.
Q: Do I still have to fill in a GFF14 submission form if I have applied through Withoutabox.com?
A: No, but please remember to include your Withoutabox tracking number on all materials when you send your submission to GFF14.
Q: What preview formats does GFF14 accept?
A: Your submitted screener should be on DVD (PAL or NTSC). Where appropriate screeners must have English subtitles. (If your title is accepted, our programme team will discuss screening formats with you. GFF always screens at the optimum possible format for your title). Please see our rules and regulations for more information.
Q: How old can my film be?
A: Your film should have been completed after October 2012.
Q: Can I submit a rough cut and if so, can I submit the final cut later?
A: You may submit an uncompleted title. Our programmers are very used to watching rough cuts, and will judge the film accordingly. No film will be rejected on the basis of being incomplete. However, due to the large volume of titles we receive, we cannot guarantee that programmers will be able to watch the completed film at a later date. Please consider this before submitting a rough cut.
Q: I submitted last year, can I submit the same film this year?
A: No, If we have already viewed your film prior to GFF14, we will not usually consider it for the following year.
Q: You rejected my film, can I have some feedback from you?
A: Due to the volume of entries received, GFF cannot offer individual critiques of declined films or reasons for declining a film from the programme.
Q: Can you give me more details about Glasgow Short Film Festival's competitions?
A: The Bill Douglas Award for International Short Film has the cash value of £1,200 and the Scottish Short Film Award has the cash value of £1000, both are judged by a panel of industry experts. The International Audience Award and Scottish Audience Award have no cash value.
Q: Does your deadline refer to arrival or postage dates?
A: We will accept all submissions with a postmark dated on or before our deadline.
Q: What happens to my film once I have submitted?
A: Your film will be viewed by a GFF14 programmer. If you have been successful we will contact you by the end of December 2013.
Q: Will my screener be returned to me?
A: Unfortunately not. Due to the large volume of titles received by our Submissions team, we are unable to return your screeners. Please only send in a copy of your film and not the only original copy!

A: No, unless you have been invited to submit a film by the GFF14 Co-directors.
Q: I have changed my mind and I don’t want my film to be in consideration, can I get a refund?
