Muvizu Presents: Glasgow Youth Film Festival 2012, Europe's most innovative film festival for young audiences is back!

GFT’s resident teens (the lovely GYFF Youth Team) have been slaving away since September sifting though piles and piles of movies to bring you the very best new films for families and young audiences. Skaters and samurais, muppets and massive talking bees – they’re all here, and we think you’ll be pretty impressed.

Book-ending the festival, our opening and closing Galas this year are Sundance hit Terri, starring the ever-wonderful John C Reilly, and Being Elmo: A Puppeter's Journey, an affectionate profile of the man behind everyone’s favourite Sesame Street chum. For families, we open with a very special preview of The Muppets.

Ever wondered what it’s like to grow up in Sweden, Southern Italy or America’s Bible Belt? For young audiences, our main programme has films from around the world featuring young protagonists in some great stories – funny, serious, and funny-serious. The films are brand new, delivered fresh from the world’s swankiest or edgiest festivals, or gold-standard cult classics.

Highlights include Simple Simon, about an autistic teen match-making for his brother; Corpo Celeste, about a rebellious teen’s bumpy coming-of-age in Southern Italy; French rom-com J’aime regarder les filles; and, for cultists, a late-night outing of the 2004 classic Napoleon Dynamite.

For families, we’ve anime treats old (Princess Mononoke) and new (Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below), plus time-travelling, cake-baking samurais (A Boy and his Samurai), and exotic new fairy tales – Tales of the Night 3D – from French master animator Michel Ocelot, director of Kirikou and the Sorceress.

GYFF is not just about watching films - we’ll also be giving you the opportunity to practice pitching your own film ideas, and have some industry pros along to give you tips on making shorts and poster design.

Our full programme launches tomorrow at Tramway's Fresh Faced. Be sure to check back early, as workshop places especially are limited and will sell-out quick!

GYFF returns 5 - 15 February 2012 and forms part of the Glasgow Film Festival.
