Directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Shirley Henderson, Everyday follows the impact of an incarcerated father on the lives of his four children, played by real-life siblings. Filmed over the period of five years, for a few weeks at a time, we see the changing relationship between Ian (John Simm) and his wife Karen. As Karen juggles the roles of mother and provider, bringing up their children while working as a bartender at the village local, our only insight into Ian’s life occurs when his family take the long journey from Norfolk by train to visit him. As the children visibly grow-up on screen, the family ties that bind begin to slowly unravel.
