CineMasters: Spike Jonze

From his roots as a skate photographer and music video director, Spike Jonze has created visually and narratively surreal films that embed the human condition at their core. We'll revisit Jonze's collaborations with Academy award-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, the metafictional comedy dramas, Being John Malkovich and Adaptation.

Join us on Sunday 23 August for a screening of Her plus a panel discussion exploring the work and worlds of Spike Jonze, as well as an exploration of society's personal relationship with A.I. represented in the 2013 film by Scarlett Johansson as the operating system Samantha designed to meet Theodore's (Joaquin Phoenix) every need.

CineMasters: Andrei Tarkovsky

One of the cinema's most visionary, celebrated and influential filmmakers, Andrei Tarkovsky made just seven features before his tragically early death at the age of 54. Characterised by metaphysical and spiritual explorations of the human condition, each film is an artistic masterpiece of extraordinary visual beauty, and they all stand as enduring classics of world cinema. As his final two features are re-released in 4K remasters for the first time, we are taking the opportunity to screen all seven films in a CineMasters season; an entirely appropriate title for the great Russian auteur.
