No celebration would be complete without a screening of one of our most beloved crowd pleasers: the always raucous Calamity Jane Sing-along is back for GFT's 50th Anniversary. Starring Doris Day as the titular gun-toting, whip-cracking Wild West whirlwind, Calamity Jane is a classic Golden Age musical. Screening with sing-along subtitles so you can join in with the Oscar-winning musical numbers. Deadwood City, deep in Dakota territory, is largely the abode of men. But Calamity Jane is as hard-riding, boastful and handy with a gun as any. Calamity’s grandstanding gets her in trouble when she promises to save the reputation of the local saloon by recruiting a beautiful singer all the way from the grand theatres of Chicago. The town’s latest arrival brings new life to Deadwood, but threatens disaster for Calamity when she catches the eye of Wild Bill Hickok, and Jane’s sweetheart, Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin. --------------- Year of Celebration: 2024 marks 85 years since our cinema (originally the Cosmo) was built, 50 years since GFT was founded and the 20th edition of Glasgow Film Festival. We are celebrating with a programme of special screenings taking place throughout May, showcasing films that have been hugely popular with audiences and have played a unique role in the history of GFT over the past five decades.
