Late Fame
It’s been a notable year for Willem Dafoe with new films including The Phoenician Scheme and The Birthday Party, the latter of which is also showing at this year’s GFF. In Kent Jones’ witty and perceptive character study, penned by May December co-writer Samy Burch, Dafoe brings a naturalistic grace to Ed Saxberger, a post office worker whose poetry-writing past has long been forgotten. When he encounters an eccentric group of young creatives who are fans of his work, he is flattered, while becoming entranced by aspirational “tragic heroine” Gloria (Greta Lee), the only woman in the group. As his artistic passions are reignited, he begins to question the sincerity of his acolytes’.DramaPT1H36MN/C 12+2026-02-28Willem Dafoe
