Moulin Rouge! - 25th Anniversary

Baz Luhrmann's reinvention of the Hollywood musical returns to the big screen for its 25th Anniversary! The screening on Thursday 9 April will be introduced by composer Craig Armstrong, who won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his work on the film. Christian (Ewan McGregor), a young poet with great aspirations, moves to the Montmartre district of Paris in order to immerse himself in the area's thriving Bohemian movement. He soon discovers that his neighbours are a performing troupe led by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (John Leguizamo), and he falls in with the group having been brought on board to help them finish a spectacular show that they plan to sell to the Moulin Rouge nightclub. As Christian enters Paris’s late night world of sex, drugs and passion, he begins a love affair with Satine (Nicole Kidman), a beautiful Moulin Rouge courtesan and star of the planned show. But one of the club's wealthy financial backers, driven by his obsession for Satine, insists that the couple is broken apart, or else the future of the club — and Christian — may be in jeopardy. PHOTOSENSITIVITY WARNING: Please note this film contains one or more sequences involving extended flashing or flickering lights that may affect those with photosensitive epilepsy. Playing as part of our CineMasters: Baz Luhrmann season.DramaPT2H8M152026-04-05
