Shape of Momo
With her delicately worked and humanistic debut, <b>Tribeny Rai </b> explores the cultural expectations of a traditional community in a clear sighted but non-judgemental way through the experiences of three generations of women. The filmmaker draws on her own experiences to tell the tale of Bishnu ( <b>Gaumaya Gurung </b>), who returns to her home village in the north-eastern Indian state of Sikkim where her grandmother, mother and sister are all subjecting themselves to patriarchal rules which Bishnu thinks outdated. Life in the village proves more complicated than she expected as Bishnu faces difficult choices between conforming or maintaining her own agency and independence.
