Solaris

Our loyal audience has a healthy appetite for science fiction, and we will celebrate this passion with back-to-back screenings of Solaris and Blade Runner: The Final Cut on Sunday 26 May as part of our Anniversary Programme. One of the first director-focused seasons at GFT in May 1974 was devoted to Andrei Tarkovsky and his filmmaking continues to hold a special place in our audiences’ affections. In his sci-fi drama Solaris, a psychologist is sent to a space station orbiting a planet called Solaris to investigate the death of a doctor and the mental problems of cosmonauts on the station. He soon discovers that the water on the planet is a type of brain which brings out repressed memories and obsessions. In Russian and German with English subtitles. --------------- Year of Celebration: 2024 marks 85 years since our cinema (originally the Cosmo) was built, 50 years since GFT was founded and the 20th edition of Glasgow Film Festival. We are celebrating with a programme of special screenings taking place throughout May, showcasing films that have been hugely popular with audiences and have played a unique role in the history of GFT over the past five decades. Browse the Anniversary Programme at https://www.glasgowfilm.org/anniversary-programme Whilst our box office and bar sales only cover around 50% of our annual costs and help keep the film reels rolling, we rely on donations and fundraising to run our education and community activities. We need your help! Celebrate 50 years of GFT by donating £50 at checkout. A £50 donation secures your seat at our special January screening, find out more or donate via glasgowfilm.org/donate. Shape the next 50 years of independent film. Your contribution matters.DramaPT2H47M12A2024-05-26
