The filmmakers will discuss taking part in the film school and the themes of their films in relation to the feature film they have chosen, Past Lives. In Celine Song’s directorial debut, Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea. 20 years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront ideas of love and destiny. Solar Reels was developed to address the lack of opportunities for the deaf community to build careers in film and television – a gap reflected in the limited representation of deaf talent both in front of and behind the camera. There will be full access for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing cinema-goers at this screening. The film will have descriptive subtitles, and the introduction and discussion will have Live Captioning and BSL interpretation. There are no ads or trailers before the film.
